"My first poetry reading at the Scarab Club"

I was happy to read some of my poetry at the Scarab Club this afternoon. I was extremely impressed with how M.L. Liebler put together this event, and the respect he receives in the literary world. Thanks for the opportunity today, M.L.!
If you reside in Michigan and haven't visited the Scarab Club in downtown Detroit, you really need to. I look forward to future artistic endeavors at the Scarab Club!

Manuscript Musings

Another day has passed and I've tweaked some of my poetry for my full length poetry book. I plan on including 50 plus Haiku and numerous narrative poems in it. I'll use a lot of work that I've created through competitive writing which seems to inspire me the most, or it has. I noticed this evening that I am itching to write something totally new. I'm not sure what it is exactly that I want to work on, but if the Muse strikes tomorrow, I'll follow her lead and write something fabulous (I hope!). I need to make sure that my compilation is exactly the way I want it. I'll sprinkle a few photographs of mine in it as well to inspire other poets. I feel that some color will add flavor to my words! I know with the children's Haiku workbook, the front cover with a pretty flower there makes an impact as it attracts readers to open the book and write some Haiku!

My first book signing last Saturday

I found it quite inspirational to have my first book signing. As many know, poetry is a hard sell, and Haiku may be an even harder sell. I feel that it is important to reach as many as possible with my words. What is neat is that I compiled two Haiku Chapbooks, one for children, and of course the one for adults. I try to write Haiku though that individuals of all ages can relate to.
With my children's workbook I give examples of writing Haiku that they can relate to their everyday lives. I try to explain situations that they can describe so that they can take a stab at writing their own poetry. I find that creating lesson plans in this format is fun and challenging at the same time. In this publication I used a variety of photographs to help illustrate some scenerios. I think that as time goes on, I'll be able to use this booklet as a stepping stone to another one. I wanted to have a product that children could use, as well as one that elementary school teachers could use in the classroom. It's important for me to be able to write materials that are kid friendly too. Of course it doesn't hurt that I've taught children to write Haiku, or short stories.............I may design future classes where I can do this more often as well...........

Valentine's Day Musings 2006

It's hard to believe that it's Valentine's Day. A little over a week ago it was my birthday....A few days ago I had my first book signing, a chapbook of 60 Haiku. I thought that was a lot of fun. If you would like to purchase a copy, please send me your e-mail.
I am putting a couple of my Haiku here for you to read.

Luscious water flows
through a forest of pine trees
splashing the black rocks

Sparkling waterfall
cascades gently over evergreen
smooth grey ancient rocks
