Midland's Barnes & Noble Book Signing Event Dec. 20 2008

It has been a roller coaster ride with huge snow drifts and fast blowing sleet these past few days. What would've been a leisurely trip across the state turned into a nightmare Friday. As I had planned on traveling up to the area the night before to relax and see the sights before my book signing event on Saturday, I was plain out of luck because of the massive snow storms that blanketed all of Michigan and other parts of the country.
Staying home saved me a few needed bucks, but, I knew that the expense would've been worth it as I like to travel a bit here and there and explore. However, the guardian angels had to be looking out for us as when we left in the wee hours of daylight something unexpected happened. Our car started to shake, rattle, and roll as soon as we began to accelerate on the expressway. Not a great way to start out a trip, yet, we did so without a fog of sleet and ice stinging our windshield. So we turned around and went home, unloaded the car into the Durango, and left as soon as we could. We were both frazzled by this time, wondering what the heck happened with the car. Stay tuned on that one.
After our late start we tried to go a bit quicker to get there so I could arrive early and set up my space on the table that I'd share with another author. We ran into some snow squalls and slippery roads. Folks slid into the embankments everywhere along the expressway. We were making pretty good time, and, we arrived a little before the event was suppose to begin, which was good for me. I could breathe for a few minutes and sip on some fresh brewed iced tea. That helped.
It was an enjoyable event and I sold plenty of books. Copies of "Woman Reclining" sold like wildfire, and "Cheryl's Musings: A Day In The Life Of An Award Winning Poet & Photographer" did well. I would've been happy to sell one or two books actually! Plus there is interest in my next two books which is helpful for me and for future readers!
The person that I was with was nice. I sold a few books of his to help him out, which I know really suprised him. At any rate, I did it because he needed the help, and I am trying to cultivate relationships with some other authors that I'd like to pursue joint book signing events with.
I stayed later and was exhausted, as was Gerry. When we drove home someone almost caused a huge accident when his tire blew up right there in front of us. I believe that we would've been hit if we were in our tiny car. Thankfully the SUV can swerve and move at lightening speed when necessary. I was concerned about that individual who was on the sidelines of the expressway, and hoped he or she received help. The state police were nearby, so I am hopeful that someone called. I didn't have an available cell phone at the time, or I would've called.
Thankfully after a very long day we got home in one piece. Perhaps I'll receive my check before next spring! The book signing organizer said it could take a very long time............Oh well.........

Waldenbooks & More - A Great Place To Relax and Buy Books

I thoroughly enjoyed my author event at Waldenbooks & More on December 11th. This book store invested in purchasing copies of both of my books, "Woman Reclining" and "Cheryl's Musings: A Day In The Life Of An Award Winning Poet & Photographer". My books were set up right out front so that the customers could view them as they walked in through the door.
While I was there I taped two of my posters to the table so that people could view them from a distance.
One new reader commented to me, " It's not very often that I get to meet an author". I think if people realized that, they might be more inclined to purchase a book as a gift for themselves, or a loved one.
Another lady who was in a rush wanted to at least stop by and inquire as to how long I'd be there. Unfortunately I am only booked for a couple of hours. Of course I did go beyond their expectations by arriving early and staying significantly later. Part of that was because I do love the store and it has been my favorite since I moved to Michigan.
I am glad that they are doing well, and am happy that I met some new readers last night. I am hopeful that other readers will stop by later on to purchase my books!
At any rate, I am looking forward to doing another book signing after my third book is published. Yey!
Tomorrow I'll be in Flint at the Barnes & Noble Book Store. Feel free to stop by!
